Horsman Residence
Like many of our clients, Larry had been dreaming about building this house for years. The original crux of his obsession wasn't timber frame, but straw bale, a sustainable building method that uses straw bales to enclose the home. Larry found us in time to discover that handmade timber frame structures and straw bale walls were a perfect marriage.
In addition to designing and engineering the timber frame, we also offered consulting services to Larry as the owner/builder, worked with other subcontractors and provided local "green" materials. To help offset Larry's expenses for the two porches, we actually negotiated for homemade cookies, fresh eggs and dog sitting. and got paid!
Larry was determined to build a house that he was comfortable leaving as a legacy. What started as a small post and beam building eventually morphed into a full-fledged, handmade timber frame which he never expected to be able to have until he met us.
The finished product was highly energy efficient, included solar hot water, and used local materials wherever possible. Framing with reclaimed wood could have been another option, but we all agreed that using local materials for the timber frame and ceiling paneling was the right choice for this custom timber frame home. Step by step, we worked as a team to find and provide the best solutions for building Larry's legacy.
Did we make the mark?
"Adrian (owner of Frameworks Timber) is, by far, the most professional person I have dealt with during the building of our house. Adrian seeks preciseness in everything he undertakes. We are the fortunate beneficiaries of Frameworks Timber's craftsmanship. Almost without exception, any visitor to our house will first remark about the beauty of the timber framing.
"Adrian found an in-state source for all of our timber and much of our lumber. He is knowledgeable about environmentally friendly building materials.
"Adrian delivered on every commitment he made. We were never concerned about the crew not showing up. From the beginning, Adrian earned our trust and respect simply by doing what he said he would do."
